Teaching: Light - Lighting - Lightroom

According to my great grandmother, my very first
word, uttered while being pushed by her in a cart through a cold winter night in Germany,
was "Licht" (light). Apparently we had just passed a street lantern after a longer path of semi-darkness.
To this day, I am excited about light, natural and "man-made".
Teaching for me is not only a great way to give back to the community, I also enjoy it a lot and learn
through it.
While a technical doctorate degree and lifelong contact with the academic environment, including
my current adjunct professorship with the University of California Davis,
somewhat qualify me to teach, there is nothing like an unexpected, sharp question of a curious student
to put me back on my toes and make me return to the books, a hopefully smarter colleague
or the resources of the www.
I currently teach studio lighting regularly in seminars and workshops to fellow professional and
aspiring photographers.
The emphasis is on lighting for portraiture, although I've also found great pleasure in lighting small objects.
More recently I have started teaching photographic workflow and Adobe Photoshop Lightroom.
I also teach Digital Photography (weekly evening sessions) and Studio Lighting (weekend workshop) at the
University of California Craft Center. Please refer to their
catalog
for upcoming sessions.
